Temporary Foreign Worker Program
Hiring Temporary Foreign Workers for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
Given the magnitude of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, HRSDC/Service Canada has put a process in place for companies that may need to hire temporary foreign workers to meet their labour needs up until April 21, 2010.
Employers will be expected to develop recruitment strategies that will ensure that Canadians and permanent residents have the first opportunities for available jobs, including advertising jobs on the national Job Bank for a minimum of 14 calendar days.
Employers who must recruit foreign workers because sufficient numbers of Canadians and permanent residents are not available, can apply for a:
- Primary Workforce Opinion if they are awarded contracts by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). Subcontractors hired under these contracts can also apply;
- Secondary Workforce Opinion if they need additional workers for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.
