Fire Protection

The risk of fire is one of the greatest threats to health and safety, property and the delivery of essential services. Industry, government, and indeed everyone, share in the responsibility of protecting Canadians from the consequences of fire.

Fire Protection Services promotes a proactive approach to fire safety and prevention and provides a range of services to clients occupying federal buildings. These services are aimed at minimizing risks to life and property, and preserving essential government services offered to all Canadians.

Fire Protection Services produces a variety of technical documents that can be found in the Federal Fire Protection Policies, Standards and Technical Documents section. These documents provide clarification on fire and building code requirements and other aspects of fire safety related to federal buildings. This section also deals with alternative compliance approaches utilized to address unique building designs and operations.

Fire Protection Services provides information on fire loss statistics and advice and guidance on a variety of fire safety topics. Within the federal government and First Nations communities, we ensure compliance with the National Building and Fire Code of Canada, and all applicable national and international fire protection standards.

To further advance our fire safety and prevention goals, Fire Protection Services also provides program grants that offer assistance to our partners in their efforts to promote fire safety and prevention awareness nationally.

The Fire Protection Services Links section contains links to other organizations within the fire protection community. These links provide easy access to additional sources of information on fire protection and safety.
