The Enabling Accessibility Fund supports community-based projects across Canada that improve accessibility, remove barriers, and enable Canadians with disabilities to participate in and contribute to their communities.
The Government of Canada built on the success of this program for people with disabilities, delivered from 2008 to 2010, by providing an additional $45 million over the next three years, starting in 2010.
The Fund supports small and mid-sized projects.
The Small Project Component provides grant funding to projects that improve the accessibility of existing facilities. Projects may include: renovation, construction and retrofitting of buildings, modification of vehicles for community use and the provision of accessible communication technologies, such as hearing devices and screen readers.
The Mid-sized Project Component provides contribution funding for larger retrofits, renovations or construction of new facilities within Canada. The facilities where the projects take place must offer services and programs that address the social and labour market needs of people with disabilities.
